TSMC Speeds Up for 18-inch Wafer Manufacturing
October 14, 2013

TSMC is reportedly to shorten the launch time of 18-inch wafer manufacturing from 2016 to 2015, as reported by Taiwan's Economic Daily News on October 14. TSMC has announced the investment of NT$400 billion (US$13.6 billion; US$1=NT$29.39) in the initial construction of three fabs for 18-inch wafer production. The total spending is expected to reach around NT$1,000 billion (US$34 billion) – a new high of the company's capex. The 18-inch wafer fabs, which will adopt 10-nm process technology, will be built in the expansion site of TSMC's Fab 15 in Central Taiwan Science Park and P8 and P9 facilities of Fab 14 in Tainan Science Park, according to the report.
